Feb 2012 Sounds A Little Fishy

At the beginning of February, Savanna took part in her class play titled "Sounds A Little Fishy" and it was really cute!  Her role in the play was a Starfish and lucky for me the description of the costume matched exactly that of the Star that she played in her Planets play from first grade!  And of course, we kept it, so actually using this costume twice really paid off!  The parents did a really great job on all of the costumes.

Jan 2012 Ocotillo Wells

At the end of January, we took our first trip to Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area.  We brought our sand toys, but this area is more known for its rocky hills and rock crawling trails.  So we used mostly the Rzr to get around this area.  We had a ton of fun with the families that joined us.  Owen was given Buddy from his preschool for the weekend, so he was really excited to bring Buddy with us wherever we went!

Ready for our long family ride

First stop: The Pumpkin Patch

It's called that because the rocks in this area look like pumpkins!

In the background is The Salton Sea

We stopped at the Discovery Center.  Manned by the park rangers, this building provides info about Ocotillo Wells and examples of what you can find in the area.  Great place!

Last stop was Shell Reef (with Jake)

Trying to make it to the top

Wonderful view of the area

The kids brought this big rock back with us.  It has a ton of small seashells in it.  So cool!

Jan 2012 Who loves to read?

Savanna started a reading program last year when she was in 1st grade.  Basically she reads a book at her level then answers questions related to the book and earns points and rewards for the amount of reading she does.  In first grade, she met her goal towards the end of the school year.  This year, she made it her personal goal to meet and exceed her reading goal.  And she has already met and exceeded it!  By a lot!  We are so proud of her reading achievements.  The librarian gives out frozen yogurt certificates and at the school assembly on fridays, students get recognized and given certificates.  Savanna achieved reading 250,000 words back in January and was given an award.

Since then she has already made it to the 500,000 word mark!  But I will post that when I get my camera hooked up to the computer.  :)

I know, I know...

I've been a seriously bad blogger as of the past three months!  I'm so so sorry!  Time just seems to be flying by for me and when I tell myself that I need to post, I procrastinate and then the days just all blend into each other.  Excuses, excuses, I know.  I really just need to be better at this.  Can I just say that it's tough managing three kids?  Is that a good enough excuse?  :)

Please Accept My Apology...

So I will try to pick up from where we left off in January...
